He wrote his first SF short story, "The Guy with the Eyes" (published in 1971) to escape the boredom of being a night watchman for a sewer project. Since then Spider Robinson has won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, three Hugo Awards, a Nebula Award, and countless other international and regional awards. He is most famous for his Calahan's Place series. Spider is also an excellent singer, equipped with a surprisingly deep, booming voice and always brings his guitar and gets to singing Beatles Tunes at VCON.
